CLEVELAND, Ga. — White County voters cast 12,665 ballots in the Nov. 3 general election, a turnout of 55.64 percent of the county’s active registered voters, Election Supervisor Amie Veater said after the polls closed.
Veater said a little more than 30 percent of voters cast ballots during early voting, a sign the county keeps leaning toward voting ahead of time, though turnout on Election Day itself stayed strong. She said Election Day voting went smoothly and thanked residents for taking part.
No local seats were contested. Candidates for White County Commission Districts 2 and 3 and for the District 2 and District 4 school board seats ran without opposition.
Among county voters, U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde topped Caitlyn Gegen in the Ninth District by a margin of 59 to 40. Will Wade carried the State Senate District 51 contest by a lopsided 79 to 20 count against Gary St. Lawrence.
Incumbent state Rep. Stan Gunter held his seat with 81 percent to 18 percent for Nick Mitchell, and Chris Dockery won the state House District 9 race 77 percent to 22 percent over Democrat Roger Smith.
County voters also approved all three proposed amendments to the Georgia Constitution, matching the statewide result.
Veater said the county does not expect a runoff. A risk-limiting audit is set for Nov. 16 through Nov. 18. Under new state legislation the audit now covers far more ballot batches and contests, stretching what had been a one-day job into three days for poll workers. After that, the elections office plans voter list maintenance in 2027, and new voting equipment is expected to arrive in time for 2028. Helen voters were part of the countywide count.
